Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi all.

Not sure if this is the right place. I have a 16' cedar/canvas Faber that I want to replace with a more appropriate tripping canoe. It will need some resoration. I'll post pictures soon, just as soon as I can find them.

The biggest issue is the split inwale on the port side. It never broke through, but I did an amature epoxy job on it. Honestly, I'm worried that I might have buggered the lines. Otherwise the paint is chipping off, but the canvas looks good to my eye.

20 years ago it was restored. New outwales/decks/thwarts/canvas. A couple ribs & planks replaced. New stems, removing the spikes. Keel removed. It hasn't been in the water in 10 years.

The truth is that I'll never paddle it. My requirements are for something lighter, interior tripping. This canoe has been in my family for decades. I would like to see it restored and loved and used. Something I am just not able to do. It's a white elephant to me, but to someone with the time and inclination it can have a new life.

Can someone point me in the right direction for moving this canoe? I'm hoping a restorer (pro or hobby) would take it and bring it back to life. Perhaps give me pointers on value - once I post photos?

Photos of the damage below. Photos of my repair just as soon as I find them.

Full set avaialable here.

There are no missing puzzle pieces. Everything fit and was epoxied using The West System.

And I forgot about the little canvas hole because I was so happy with the overall state of the canvas even with peeling paint. That prybar is 1" wide.

Bump.

No, seriously. This canoe is back and certainly the worse for wear. Great winter project! Have you ever wanted to try rebuilding a cedar canvas? No fear with this canoe as the repair is more than the canoe is worth!

It has been stored dry, but outside. Canvas is all gone, so you don't have that chore.
