Too Many Hobbies
Hi All,

We were given a wooden canoe and I am trying to identify it. I have attached a few pictures. There is a small oval brass tag in the forward part of the canoe with the numbers 116 and 134 on it, one over the other. Where the white paint is chipping off it appears to be red underneath. I can't find any other markings. It is 16' 8" long with a 35" beam. Any ideas?

Paul

Hi Paul,

Your canoe was made by the Shell Lake Boat Company in Wisconsin. It is their Model 116. See attached catalog page showing this canoe.

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks Dan,

I'd love to find out more, i.e. age, if the red under the white paint is the original color, what it might be worth, etc. I'll need to do a little restoration due to some dry rot, so if anyone can clue me in to an information source that would be great.
