I came across this lecture by Stew Coffin captured in video. Stew is an accomplished tripper and he spent years building glass canoes, kayaks and paddles. The first half of the video focusses on his canoe work. Although it is about plastic boats, you may find the history and design processes he describes to be interesting. Stew spoke at the Assembly at Franklin Pierce about his compilation of a canoe/river guide as part of the AMC as well.
