The Curator of the Canadian Canoe Museum (Peterborough Ontario) provided the following comments to my inquiry as to dates. This may assist those interested in dating their craft.
"A quick but informative survey of PCC catalogues shows that the Speedster's model number in 1951 was #182. From 1952 until 1954, her model number changed to #1827. In 1955, she changed to #1838 and it remained so through to the 1958 catalogue. In 1959, the Speedster was changed again, this time to #2139.
Important to remember that as in most production lines, this year's catalogue is for next year's models. Therefore, a model # of 1838 was likely manufactured between 1954 and 1958.
