Old town

The Old Town canoe with serial number 110506 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between October, 1931 and March, 1932. The original exterior paint color was fire red. It shipped on March 19th, 1932 to Long Island City, New York. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the project,

Benson

Thanks Benson, Under color on the sheet, does that say something Line . Like a design? or maybe it's someones signature ?

It clearly says something there but I'm not sure what. My best guess is "Hair line stripe" but I would need to see the original to be sure. Unfortunately, all access to the paper records has been shut down by Covid restrictions. Sorry,

Benson

I was at the factory recently and able to get an image of this build record as shown below. My guess of the bottom line was correct. Let me know if you have any other questions,

Benson
