Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 9833 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Charles River model with red western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, spruce outside finish rails, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, two painter rings, and two flag pole sockets. It was built between November, 1908 and April, 1909. The original exterior paint color was blue with a half inch gold stripe and the name "Darl" on the left bow and right stern. It shipped on May 8th, 1909 to New York City. A scan of this build record can be found below.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will ;donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. For example, the Carleton canoe with this serial number is 17 feet long and shipped in 1914. The Kennebec canoe with this number is 18 feet long and shipped in 1915. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
