These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Your life membership to the WCHA is much appreciated.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

I’m curious about Smith’s Sealer. Where was it applied and what was it?

The short answer is that nobody really knows because there isn't anyone left alive who can provide a conclusive answer. My guess is that it was a wood sealer applied to the hull to make it last longer and help reduce the number of coats of expensive varnish that were required to make it look good. See https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/6415/ for another example from this era. I've not been able to learn more from some simple web searches.
