Canoe Nut
Thanks to this great site, I am the proud owner of a 17' Max Andersson as shown in the Wooden Canoe issue 103.
In order to save on gas we drove my wife's diesel Bug back and forth to Atlanta, GA. and Chicagoland. We did get a few looks from people and a number of honks and waves from other Bug owners. They probably didn't know they could carry a 17' canoe on the roof of their car.
The method of tying it down was quite effective and allowed cruising well in excess of the speed limit.
