Hello, I recently picked up a free canoe with the terse description "Needs work but no leaks" after I got it home and actually looked at it it seemed like it might have some history. I found this SN plate and started searching around. I don't know if that last digit is actually a zero. It looks like I can't post a photo of the plate yet so I'll just home it's right. Any information will be interesting. Thanks in advance.

The Kennebec serial numbers in the 1564x range from 16 to 18.5 feet long and are all from 1921. You can either post some random messages here or send the serial number image to webmaster@wcha.org and I'll post it here. Good luck,

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
Great find. Slippery slope.
The Kennebec with serial umber 15640 is a square ended outboard motor canoe so my guess is that you have the one with serial number 15646. This is an 18 foot long Kennebec model type a as shown on page 210 of volume three in the Kennebec ledgers. It was planked by F. King on December 24th, 1921. Tuttle added the canvas covering on the same day. Chamberlain applied the first filler coat on January 7th, 1922. Soucie applied the second filler coat on May 13th, 1922. The rails were installed by Garland on the same day. The original color was gray and it shipped to Camp Copake Lake in Cararyville, New Lake on May 16th, 1922.
