First impressions of chestnut Bob's special

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Last winter I finished a chestnut that I found abandoned on the side of the road. Today I took it out into Lake Ontario for the first time in small, but strong, waves. Having paddled only fibreglass and whit water canoes....and a few aluminum ones, I was surprised by how it handled the waves. No flex that an empty unloaded fibreglass boat would have in the hull. It tracks well. Its surprisingly wide but you don't notice it unless you are in the front. Now I'll have to keep my eye out for a 16 or 17 footer. Learned a lot from my first renovation....hope to have time to do another soon.

Hmmm...I will have to figure that out! I guess it's easier to upload photos by attaching files? This was from another day where it was very calm. Lake Ontario is amazingly clear this time of year. I had to replace a seat since..this boat wasnt fully restored to its original state as I just want something usable....so I didn't recane the current seat. IMG_20210405_094607.jpg
