2013 Assembly

Rob Stevens

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
Next year's Assembly will be extended by a day ie. July 9th-14th, again at Paul Smith's College, NY.

The theme will be Thompson canoes and boats.

It's not too early to plan to attend, and get started on restoring or sprucing up your Thompson.

2014 will feature "Tomorrow's Classics; Current Builders" -just to give you plenty of time to consider what you might prepare and share for our 35th Anniversary Assembly.

Spoiler alert - in an effort to keep auction results and the benefit to the WCHA high, in addition to all of the incredible donations we will be raffling at least one canoe. The Norumbega chapter has graciously agreed to fully restore a camp Keewaydin 17' Chestnut crusier. Watch for periodic updates and an article in the journal, outlining the tripping and incredible service their boats deliver year after year.Based on the job they did on the Rushton Indian, it will look great. The Cronje will come well equipped, and was handed off to Steve Lapey at Killbear this past weekend and taken back to Mass. Cant wait for Assembly 2013!

Assembly is a little more than a month off. I am so looking forward to this. This year, there is an extra day to enjoy the Adirondacks, paddle, sail and participate in a variety of workshops and enjoy interesting presentation and demonstrations. Plans have come together to restore a 25 ft Old Town war canoe. So, you're welcome to join in and help with installing new ribs & planking, canvassing and filling.

The draft program is available here; http://www.wcha.org/annual-assembly/

Let us know if you want to contribute.

Actually, the Assembly Planning Committee has already begun planning for next year's 35th Anniversary Assembly, "Modern Classics" featuring contemporary builders.
