LOVES Wooden Canoes
I am in the process of restoring a 1940 Ojibway that was in a bit of disrepair. I have replaced the inwales and need to replace the outwales, keel, a few broken ribs and some planking. My issue is that this canoe did not have any brass or copper stem guards. The decks do not indicate that any guard was extended onto them. What I need is an image of the nose and deck of an 1940-ish Ojibway so that I know how to finish the inwales and outwales. Do they need to extend a bit or cut in line with the nose tip?
Any images or information related to this canoe is greatly appreciated.
thanks & have a great day

The one shown below has a stem band although it may have been added after it shipped in 1942.

Thanks Benson - It appears as no extension of gunwales past the stem. I believe that I will also add the stem bands.
have a great day & thanks again!
