Just purchased a beautiful old town row boat and would like to know some history about it.
Year sold,original cost,specs, etc. Boat is 16' long with 4 seats serial # 122132
There is a plate on front with the name R.E. Kearney. Thanks, Dean in Seattle area.

The Old Town with serial number 122132 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, square stern model with open spruce gunwales, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between June, 1937 and February, 1938. The exterior paint color was dark green with tropical green. It was shipped on July 11th, 1938 to Winsted, Conn. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your boat. The list price was $110 for this boat in the 1938 catalog as shown below. See the Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection from http://store.wcha.org/The-Complete-Old-Town-Canoe-Company-Catalog-Collection-CD-ROM.html for more details. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
