Curious about Wooden Canoes
Thank you for your help! here is another canoe I just acquired. Would you be generous enough to look this one up as well?

Kind regards

Denis

Denis - this one looks even better than your other one. I don't have the records, but it looks like an early Old Town HW or maybe O.T. Charles River. If the wood is in good condition, and it looks like it is, this one will be a beauty with those early-style decks and that dramatic upsweep at the ends. That odd deeper blue stripe along the sheerline made me think it once had sponsons, but a sponson canoe should a little carry thwart near each deck. Now I think the canoe probably had an interesting paint job there. It would be fun to hear more about this one.

Hello H.E.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, it looks like sponsons were added at some point. I think that it still has its original canvas with a white Greek frieze motif over red (see photo). The wood is in very good condition - practically no rot and ribs all intact.
Best,
Denis
