We can't find the serial number on the canoe, but the title for the boat (thank you State of Pennsylvania) lists the ID number as 190081c and manufacture date 1972. That date jives with stories told by the original owner.

Fiberglass, 16 ft, blue, plastic seats, weighs a million pounds.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 190081 is an 16 foot long fiberglass Carleton model with a keel that weighed 80 pounds at the factory. It was built between May and June, 1972. The original exterior gelcoat color was blue. It shipped on June 2nd, 1972 to Malvern, Pennsylvania. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

Thank you. I guess 80lbs feels like a million pounds after a day on the water when I have to help get it from the ground to the top of the subaru!

In daylight the stamped serial number appeared as if by magic.

This canoe was my uncle's and he gave it to me 20 years ago. The thing is indestructable.
