The Survival of the Bark Canoe
The Survival of the Bark Canoe
By John McPhee
Farrar, Straus, Giroux, 1989. $7.95
Reviewed by John Hobbs

McPhee, an avid and experienced canoer, meets Henri Vaillancourt and alternates
this book between descriptions of Vaillancourt's craft and a canoe trip McPhee
makes with Vaillancourt and others. We find out that being an master canoe
builder does not automatically make one an accomplished backwoods canoeist.
An enjoyable - if too short - read.
