I am wondering about information on my Father's Old Town Canoe - serial # 177440 15. Wondering if there is a bulid sheet available on it. I stumbled on this site through Google - and I have to say it is VERY interesting... I have read a lot of very good posts in many different categories and I am enjoying it. Any info you could provide I would appreciate.

The Old Town with serial number 177440 is a 15 foot long Trapper model with a keel. It was built between January and February, 1967. The original polypropylene / fiberglass exterior was painted dark green. It shipped on February 10th, 1967 to Grand Rapids, Michigan. This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. There are not many people looking for fiberglass covered wooden canoes so you may find that it won't sell for as much as a canvas covered wooden canoe with a similar condition and age. It should work well so you might want to just enjoy it yourself. Good luck,

Thanks for the link - I will take a look at that. The sad part is there's a story behind all this... we just found out in checking into this canoe that it is not the canoe my dad actually purchased originally. He purchased a 14 foot canvas portage canoe - when it was delivered it had a large bubble in the canvas or apparently some sort of defect so they returned it under warranty to be repaired. The store, Bronner's, called him a few weeks later and said his canoe was back - he told them to just put it in a certain rack outside their store and he'd get it - he went after hours, saw this green canoe in the rack they specified and he picked it up... well in checking into this... he apparently got a different canoe. what a can of worms to open some 40 years later!!!
