Who Made My Canoe

Hello, this is my first post on the forum, and I am hoping that someone can tell me who built my canoe. I recently bought a wooden canvas canoe that the structure is in excellent condition but the canvas is very wrinkled, and I am looking at recanvassing it. I beleive that it is a Prospector model. I will post a picture of the serial number in hopes that someone will point me in the right direction.

Well, this is a bit of a mystery. It appears to be a hull identification number (HIN) with a three character manufacturer identification code (MIC) at the beginning. This is described in the Canadian government web site at http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-construction-manufacturer-menu-1690.htm but there doesn't appear to include any way to research the MIC. The United States site at http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=THG indicates that THG was assigned to both Thunder Craft Boats and Tolland High School. The 99 on the end indicates that it was probably shipped in 1999 but it is not clear who was using this MIC at that time. If the MIC is really THC than the site at http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=THC indicates that this could be from either Thrillco Manufacturing or The Hinckley Company although it appears that this MIC was not being used by either organization in 1999. The web site at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm has some more information about these numbers. My guess is that you have a canoe from Tolland High School. Good luck with the recanvassing and restoration.

Thank you , Benson, for your info. If you are a moderator, would it be possible to move my thread to the Serial Number forum? I didn't see the other forum before I posted in here.

Can you post more photos of your canoe? Some overall shots, and a good shot of the deck profile could be useful.

I know a little bit about your canoe (thanks to my husband Reid) . It was built for Trailhead in Ottawa by canots Sylvain who were/are somewhat near Shawinigan Quebec. It is a 16' Prospector designed by Trailhead and offered for, maybe, 5 or 6 years in the 90's in both canvas (thc) and verolite (thv). Yes the last 3 digits are the year of manufacture. From what I remember it was a nice hull shape but not that well built. Nice to paddle though. Hope this helps.
