There is a guy in Allendale, NJ that has Old Town Canoes posted for $125 each. canoe1.jpgcanoe2.jpgcanoe3.jpg

I AM NOT THE PERSON SELLING THESE.

He had 3, I bought a 1937 Carleton from him that was so badly rotted that I salvaged the bolts, seats, thwarts and inner gunwales and burned the rest.
Yes, it was that bad, and saving her was not an option.

The other 2 boats can be saved, but time is running out.

Go to Craigslist and to North New Jersey and search on Old Town Canoes.

I would hate to see these boats meet the fate of the Carleton.

The guy is really nice and wants to see these boats saved - he is working on another one for himself.

Update - he sold the one with Sponsons to someone from Rhode Island, he only has one left, the 17' OTCA sn 80058-17.
Hopefully someone out there is looking for a winter project.
I have no room for it (according to my wife) or I would go after it.

I broke down and rescued the last canoe he had...

Update - I broke down and bought the OCTA today. I suspect it's from 1923.

Not really a wood canoe addict - I want ONE to paddle.

I'm more of a paddler than a restorer. My wood working skill set is very limited.

The only reason I bought this one is to save her from the fate that the 1937 Carleton had.

I'm going to restore a 1951 Old Town Yankee that doesn't need much more than canvas, refinishing and a little wood work.
She's my "bucket list" canoe because there is nothing like paddling a wood canoe.
She will be used for what she was intended - canoe trips in the Adirondacks with my best friend and with Scouts.

Also have an Old Town Camper and an Old Town Discovery - for use with Scouts.
