Serial # help, PLEASE! Thanks in advance!

    Hello all, fascinating reading in here! I just picked up an Old Town 15' canvas over wood canoe, serial # 277811. Any help with dating it would most welcome! Thank you!

    Welcome and congratulations, it is my sad duty to report that the scanned Old Town records stop just over 250,000 in 1984 so no one here can provide more detailed information for your Trapper model with serial number 277811. The chart at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/oldtown_chart.html indicates that it was probably built around 1986. The last two digits of the hull identification number on the starboard stern can usually provide a build year. The information at http://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf may help you interpret this number. Let me know if you have any other questions,
