Progress on a Cedar Rib

Paul Miller

Canoe Nut
Hi,

I finally received the Cedar Rib Pete from CA. a week or so ago.

It arrived on a rainy Saturday when Peter Mueller happened to be at my place.

Seeing as it was already waterlogged we thought we may as well try and straighten in out. Hours later and much brainstorming and clamped in a number of different directions we left it to dry.

This morning I decided to release the clamps and see what happened.

The first picture shows the canoe before shipped with major distortion, especially to the gunnels. The follow up pictures show the preliminary results. I plan to do a bit more reshaping after I strip it.

There are about 10 or 12 ribs to replace, but it looks pretty good so far.

I'll keep posting the progress.

Happy woodworking,

Paul

Who cares about the canoe? How do you fit a spray booth into your shop?!

Just kidding. Nice canoe.

But I am a little jealous of the spray booth!
