1919 Old Town 16’ OTCA #53873
She’s been well used but taken care of. Quite solid. A few lateral cracks in the cedar planking, a few repaired planks. All ribs look to be original. One small lateral crack. Two look to be gnawed on by something. Outer gunwale replaced with walnut at some point except 2’ from either end. Ends repaired. All screws replaced with brass Phillips with 1/2 being stripped out. Canvas (Despite the terrible color) is in pretty good condition being replaced in 2015. Seats need to be recaned and not sure if they or thwarts are original. Look to be oak instead of maple. Portage yoke works great! I washed the interior with Murphy’s oil soap and a stiff nylon brush. Lightened it up but it’s still pretty dark, being stained dark years ago.

It’s a paddler as is. Go use it.
If it were mine, I’d do a complete restoration.
But, that’s what I do....
New outer gunwales repair or replace the inner gunwales. New decks(available from Island Falls Canoe), stripped, new varnish, new cane, new canvas, and new color.
It’s a lot of work, but very satisfying. we are here for you if you need us!

It is a beauty. I agree with Dave, but maybe a compromise. Paddle for the summer and restore her over the winter. (you could do a cheap paint job for the summer to spare the fish and turtles the shock of that purple.)
