I have an old wood/canvas canoe that was bought by my grandfather around 1922. I was told it was an Old Town. It is 18 feet long and in fairly good shape and I believe "seaworthy". I was hoping to find more information on this canoe and what it is going to take to restore it to "new" condition.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 65045 is an 18 foot long, CS grade, Charles River model with open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch trim, and a keel. It was built between February and April, 1921. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It shipped on June 4th, 1921 to Louisville, Kentucky. Thanks. This information is consistant with what was passed on to me by my uncle. My grandfather documented, in photographs, his numerous canoe trips on the Ohio River between Louisville and Cincinnati during the 1920's. My plan is to restore his old Charles River model to "new" condition. Stripping begins next week.
