I would appreciate as much information as possable regarding OT-67150-18 in order to pass it along to the people who want to sell this canoe. It is now being advertised in the D&C (Rochester,NY) as being in good condition, but needs new canvas. They are asking $850. I have not seen it and am not a buyer as I am looking for something more like a 50 pounder or possable a 15-16 foot Charles River or Ideal. I did tell the seller I'd try to help them learn more.....

The Old Town canoe with serial number 67150 is an 18 foot long, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash trim, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between October, 1921 and February, 1922. The original exterior paint color was auto gray with a half inch maroon stripe and greek ends. This may have looked similar to the one at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design14.gif that was known as the design number 14. It shipped on February 8th, 1922 to Paterson(?), New Jersey. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

More information about valuing old canoes is available at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=57 and there are many nice ones offered at http://classifieds.wcha.org/ in the classifieds here.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with your search,

Benson
