Restorers
This Square Stern was dropped off today for restoration and we looked up the build record but found that it, and the 2 pages of repair records were very hard to read. Does someone have a way cleaning these up a bit?

Thanks, Dan

It appears that the glass was unusually dirty when this box was scanned so many of them are like this. You can read most of the writing if you enlarge them. You may be able to contact the customer service department at the Old Town Canoe Company and get a copy from their paper records if they are not too busy. Please reply here if they are not able to satisfy your request. Good luck,

Benson

Better late than never? I stopped by the factory this week and had a chance to look up some records. The Old Town with serial number 97313 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, square stern model with open mahogany gunwales, 48 inch mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between January, 1928 and July, 1929. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June, 7th, 1930 to South Lincoln, Maine. The back side of this record and additional sheet shows that it came back for repairs on May 9th, 1932, May 9th, 1935, June 5th, 1937, and March 30th, 1944. Scans showing all sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate, join, or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
