Hello,

I've just inherited a beautiful 16' Old Town rowing canoe with serial 183688. It has a brass plaque from Fernald's Marine in Newbury Mass, and my father says he purchased it up there in the 70's.

Would love to see what the build notes are.

Thanks,
Erik

The Old Town with serial number 183688 is a 16 foot long double end boat model with a keel. It was built between August, 1969 and June, 1972. The original exterior paint color was white. It was shipped on June 13th, 1972 to Newbury, Mass. The back side of this record indicates that it may have moved to Mansfield, Mass. by September of 1972 when a previous letter requested a copy of this information.

Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the thumbnail images attached below. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
