Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hey, I recently acquired this beautiful Old Town and was hoping to find more information about the canoe. The serial is difficult to make out. I believe it's 116292. The original owner believes his father purchased it new in 1938. Thanks!

Congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 116292 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between October, 1935 and March, 1936. The original exterior paint color was maroon. It shipped on April 16th, 1936 to Boston, Massachusetts.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to donate or join.

You may have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Please reply here if you have any other questions.
