Curious about Wooden Canoes
Walter Lane from the Jackman area of Maine is featured in the Documentary , 'Dead River Rough Cut'. In parts of the film he paddles an 18' Old Town Guide canoe , at least that's what it appears to be. I'm wondering out of curiosity if it would be possible to get info on the canoe with this information ? The film was made from 1969-'72 I believe .

No way of knowing what the SN might be , I realize that it is very easy to get info with that # but I am wondering if it can be found with the owner's name (Walter Lane) and location ?

I didn't find anything that shipped directly to Walter Lane. A broad variety of Old Towns have shipped to Jackman over the years. The newest 18 foot Guide shipped there on August 19th, 1949. See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/14441/ for more details about that canoe. Another with serial number 127059 shipped to Ruel E. Holden at Attean Lake Camps in Jackman on July 10th, 1940. More thorough research would require viewing thousands of build records individually. These are available from http://www.wcha.org/store/old-town-canoe-company-build-record-archive-2-dvd-set if you want to take that on. Good luck,

Benson
