Recently purchased this canoe and like it very much....any input on its history would be greatly appreciated!

Old Town serial numbers usually don't have letters so my guess is that you have the canoe with serial number 187995. This is a 16 foot long FG (fiberglass) model that was built in December, 1971. The original exterior gelcoat colors were desert white on the deck with yellow on the hull. It shipped on June 7th, 1972 to North River, New York. The back side of the record indicates that the warranty card was returned from East Northport, New York on July 27th, 1972. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you very much Benson! It is really cool to know a little more about my canoe...it is still in great shape to be over forty years old. And still the original color too. I think I got a pretty good deal! Thanks again, Sickamour
