Hi, I'm brand new to this group and will appreciate any information I can learn about an Old Town Canoe that I bought this past weekend at a yard sale. Serial number 173515 and there is "SR" painted on one end? Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 173515 is a 15 foot long fifty pound model with a keel. It was built between November, 1963 and February, 1964. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 30th, 1964 to Mayland, Tennessee. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. See https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/16773/ more details about a similar canoe. Someone at Camp Nakanawa may have more information about the "SR" painted on the end. The page at http://campnakanawa.com/centennial/contact/ has their contact information. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck,

Benson
