Old Town 127585 - New Member

Life is simple . . just add waterl
Hi everyone,
I thought it would be appropriate for my first forum post to be an inquiry about my new project. I recently acquired a 17' OTCA in Kingsport, TN from the third owner. Serial number is 127585. Any information about the build sheet would be great. The previous owner (a former WCHA member) did a lot of restoration work on it to include replacing ribs, stripping, etc. I hope to take it over the finish line. I've ordered the books, "This Old Canoe" and "The Wood & Canvas Canoe" to get ready to jump in. I've attached a couple of pictures of her current condition. Looks like all the parts are there except the keel. I'm sure I'll be reaching out for advice.
Thanks to Michael Grace, Benson Gray and Annie Burke for reaching out and making me feel welcome.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 127585 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales and a keel. It was built between May, 1939 and January, 1940. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on February 19th, 1940 to Fort Wayne, Indiana. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson
