Its not too uncommon to find very weird objects, bolts, glued up plywood structures, bugs and rusty nails in or under the decks of older canoes. This long decked Morris had been in storage for several years waiting for its turn for restoration. Before that, the owner had it in storage for many years. So it was quite a while before anyone had handled the boat.
We brought into the shop the other day and Elisa and I were removing the decks and spied a weird blob stuck way up in the stem. We shined a light on it and it was several minutes before we figure out what it was. A hunk of pizza crust! It looks like it might have been pepperoni and cheese at one time.
I’m not sure but it might be the last lunch of the guy that packed the canoe at the Morris factory! Should I send a picture to Kathy Kros so it can be added to the next revision of the Morris Canoe Book or should I offer it on auction on E-Bay? In the right light it may have the profile of Bert Morris!
