Good Day!

Fred Lucas here. Im a lifelong reenactor/buckskinner and occasional museum professional. In a recent telephone call to the Owner of Coos Canoe and Snowshoe, he mentioned this organization and so I have now become a member.

In the early 2000's I worked for the New York State Historical Association for a few years. During that time I was part of a team that built a birchbark, an elmbark and and dugout canoes.

I own a birchbark canoe made by I think a man named Wetzel from up in Minnesota.

Spend as much time as I can on the water, either here locally in Indiana or on the Au Sable in Michigan. These trips are usually either in my OT pack canoe or a Discovery 174.

Im in the process of doing a major overhaul/restoration on my bark canoe that will either return it to full seaworthiness or at a minimum get it ready for someone to decorate the rafters of their cabin with. Ive been eyeing wood and canvas canoes, who knows what's next for me......
