My cousin has this canoe with no markings is going to restore and would be nice if we could identify. Canoe is in Ontario but not sure if it originated there,

Looks Thompson to me, can't tell the model from those pics.

Check to see if the metal tie straps are under the decks, and if the ribs ends have 45 degree cuts fore and aft, both signs of a T.
Then look at the end shape/profile, if pulled back, likely a Indian, if low and round, likely the late Ranger or maybe a Guide.

I agree with Dan, based on the deck. However, Thompson normally countersunk the seat and thwart bolts and covered them with a wooden plug. These photos show carriage bolts for seats and thwarts with no plugs. Also Thompson used a solid cedar spacer block between the seats and gunwales. This canoe has drilled out dowels for spacers.
There may have been repairs that negated thes common Thompson traits at some point. The steel strap under each deck or evidence of one would confirm Thompson Brothers Boat Company as the builder.

Dave,

The 1st T I did had the carriage bolts and dowels, the others were counter sunk and had the blocks.

After seeing Model 604 on the internet, I'd have to agree with Andre. Also it would be very rare to see a Thompson canoe in Ontario. The decks are very similar....had never seen that before.

If that's too distasteful for you just think of it as being correct. It's Peterborough all the way.

Thank you all for your replies. I will forward to my cousin in Canada and see if he can confirm. Will report back with his findings.
