Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
As I've been working on the canoe, I've been thinking that I'll have to make paddles too. Picked up a nice 6/4 cherry board for stock. Got the first coat of primer on the canoe last week, so I roughed out a paddle for my 5 year old daughter. It's walnut, about 36" long. Kind of clunky, but good practice for full size paddles. I just sketched out the shape on the board so the proportions are off a bit and needs to be finished. I'll have to make one for my 3 year old next, then one each for my wife and I. Fun project!

Just made a post in the Wood Canvas forum showing the completed canoe. Here's a photo of the paddles finished up. Mine is the cherry, curly maple for my wife, walnut for my brunette daughter and another curly maple for my blonde daughter. Probably make more from spruce, these are pretty heavy!
