I am looking for info and value on a old town wood/canvas covered cano that my father purchased in 1966 I believe. It was shipped to Redding California when I was a child Serial number 176034-18. Thanks

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 176034 is an 18 foot long, Guide model that was built on the Otca form with hand thwarts, a keel, a floor rack, and a stem band along the full length of the keel. It was built between April and July, 1966. The exterior paint color was red. It shipped on July 15th, 1966 to Redding, California. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

The valuation like that Paul mentioned should give you some good ideas. There are some similar canoes listed at http://www.wcha.org/classifieds currently. Canoes with a family history are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
