Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi,

While I haven't given up on my donated 16' Picard, the rot on the boat is a little daunting, sooooo... I found a canoe for cheap that is in much better condition. Any thoughts on the maker? I got it near Rochester NY. Grandson says his grandfather bought it in 50s or 60s. Its definitely a Huron - the decks say Picard but no half ribs. According to another WCHA thread this means it was made for Chestnut or other companys (as an entry level?) Dragonfly says that all the Huron builders made canoes for Sears - but try as I might I only see sears W/C canoes with Bastien Bros. Heart shaped decks on the internet (pictures and old adverts.) It is exactly 15' (from extreme end to end) and about 32" inner gunnel to inner gunnel, 12" deep. The scalloped canvas is interesting - which manufacturers used that method?

Thoughts?
