Identify Chestnut Canoe?

I have just purchased a Chestnut.

Number looks like 79103 or maybe 70103.

Probably the first one.

Where do I find out when it was made, the model and where it was made?

Also, is there something to help clarify the number?

Thanks

Unfortunately, we cannot learn anything from Chestnut serial numbers - no records are known to exist.

To get started, post the length, maximum beam and depth, whether it has 1-1/2" or 2-3/8" wide ribs, whether it has carry thwarts, and if the decal is still present, what city is printed on it. Also if the decks are heart-shaped or semi-circular.

If you can also post a photo or six, all that much the better.

chestnut information

I don't have the canoe now, dropped it off to be fixed up. I will go from memory.

To get started, post the length: 16 ft

maximum beam and depth, - don't have now

whether it has 1-1/2" or 2-3/8" wide ribs: guessing 2-3/8"

whether it has carry thwarts: - 1 thwart only where the yolk would be

and if the decal is still present, what city is printed on it: Fredericton, NB Pat. 1905 - decal on Bow deck only

Also if the decks are heart-shaped or semi-circular: semi-circle

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Jack

If it helps, I purchased two custom Prospectors from Chestnut in the spring of 1965. Their serial numbers were 73710 and 73711.
