Hull ID's

Michael Duffy

canoeist canoe builder
I'm a backyard canoe builder and have several canoes (cedar strip) that I'd like to sell. In looking at my states (NH) requirements I saw a notice of requiring a hull id. Right now its not an issue as NH does not require canoes to be registered. I have a good idea whats required to get them but am confused as to how to apply them to the canoes in a manner which would be acceptable to the USCG. I also do not have records showing when they were made.

Any help would be appreciated

Mike

The information at https://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/dmv/registration/boat.htm indicates that you need "receipts from materials purchased, floor plans or blueprints, and a driver's license when registering a homemade boat" so the lack of records might make things difficult. If you can get the state to issue you a hull identification number then it will need to be permanently affixed to the starboard stern. Good luck,

Benson
