I'm a backyard canoe builder and have several canoes (cedar strip) that I'd like to sell. In looking at my states (NH) requirements I saw a notice of requiring a hull id. Right now its not an issue as NH does not require canoes to be registered. I have a good idea whats required to get them but am confused as to how to apply them to the canoes in a manner which would be acceptable to the USCG. I also do not have records showing when they were made.

    Any help would be appreciated

The information at indicates that you need "receipts from materials purchased, floor plans or blueprints, and a driver's license when registering a homemade boat" so the lack of records might make things difficult. If you can get the state to issue you a hull identification number then it will need to be permanently affixed to the starboard stern. Good luck,
