How dry do cypress strips need to be to plank a boat?

The wood should contain less than 12% moisture. If you bought the wood planned it was probably kiln dried and ready to go. If bought rough and green it should sit a year/in thickness to dry. It will dry faster if you cut it into 1/4" strips first . Be sure to place dry spacers between layers and strap the bundle tight to prevent warping.
