Finding Birch Bark

I am looking into building a birch bark canoe, but I have one problem; I live in Missouri. The second problem is the amount of bark that I would need for a canoe. Does anyone know a place where I can get a large amount of birch bark for a reasonable price? On a side note I will be going to Wisconsin in July, so if some one had bark around there shipping wouldn't be a problem. Thanks for any help, and I will be sure to post results if I can get my hands on the bark.

Some of the birch bark canoe builders will occasionally sell bark that is less prime for a "reasonable price" and it can usually be shipped. Try contacting some of the ones listed at http://www.wcha.org/buildsupply/ to see if you can work something out. Good luck and please keep us posted here.

If you're going to Wisconsin, you could contact Ferdy Goode. He is on here from time to time and has a website, beaver bark canoe....
