Hi Benson - Can you please provide the build sheet for 116558 16?
thanks and have a great day
The Old Town canoe with serial number 116558 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, a keel, and sponsons. It was built between November, 1935 and March, 1936. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design37.gif which was known as the design number 37 with “Orange color instead of fire red.” It shipped on May 19th, 1936 to Long Island City, New York. It was returned on October 22nd, 1936 for refinishing. If you really have a 16 foot long square stern then it may actually be serial number 116553. Scans showing both of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.
These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to renew.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions don't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
Hi Benson - I provided the wrong serial number - sorry - the correct number is 116588 16.
Again, sorry for my carelessness and the extra work that I caused.
have a great day
This is not a problem, I well understand how mistakes like this happen. The Old Town canoe with serial number 116588 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (heavy water) model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between November, 1935 and June, 1936. The original exterior paint color was orange with the name "June - Joy" in black on the right and left bow. It shipped on June 29th, 1936 to Patterson, New Jersey. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Please attach a picture if the original name is still showing. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
have a great day
