Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 95034 is a 16 foot long double end boat model in CS (Common Sense or the middle) grade with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, and a floor rack. It was built in July, 1927. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 29th, 1927 to Burkehaven on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire. This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that they could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Old boats with a family connection are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

    hmmm...thank you Benson.

Maybe I made a mistake reading the serial. the full # on the canoe is XTC95034M73l

And yes, this boat is extra special. My dad purchased it a year before I was born, many good memories were had in this canoe.

Yes, the format of the Coast Guard's hull identification numbers limits the serial numbers to five digits. Old Town issued their serial number 100,000 in 1928 so they simply omitted the most significant digit on their hull numbers during that era. The Old Town canoe with serial number 195034 is a 16 foot long Chipewyan model that weighed 66 pounds. It was built in April, 1973. The original exterior color was avocado. It shipped on April 30th, 1973 to East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

It is also possible that they could have another number or manufacturer if this description still doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
