Been reading Farley Mowat’s latest book, No Man’s River. Part of it recounts traveling rivers in territory west of Hudson Bay in a freighter canoe. Not strictly paddling, because they use a motor, aka, a kicker. Motor is really old, dies a lot, and requires many field repairs. Last gasp was when it blew a head gasket. So what do they do? Make a head gasket from birch bark and it works fine. Anybody want to try it?

Ah, gee, Larry! Next April I was gonna offer to give away a couple of birchbark head gaskets I've got laying around. Now that I know they are worth something, I guess I'll keep 'em.
