Any Info On Serial Numbers: 258111 (unknown Canoe Maker) And Wx 11871 (penn Yan Boat)

Welcome, I'm sad to report that the scanned Old Town records stop just over 250,000 so no one here can help. Your canoe should have a hull identification number on the starboard stern. The information at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm will help you decode a manufacturer and date from this. The chart at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/oldtown_chart.html indicates that it is probably circa 1984.

The WX prefix on your Penn Yan serial number indicates that this is a Light Cartop Boat model. These were listed in their catalogs from 1939 to 1956. There are no known serial number records for Penn Yan so there isn't much more that anyone here can tell you. Sorry,

Benson

I stopped by the Old Town factory yesterday and found the build record for your canoe as shown below. It shows a 17 foot long roto (rototationally molded Discovery series) canoe in green. It was made in June of 1984 and shipped to Ely, Minnesota on June 15th, 1984.

I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
