Age of my Lakefield

Adrian Pearce

Canoeist and restorer
2008 before restoration.jpgI am in the last stages of restoring a 141/2 foot Strickland designed Lakefield. Originally she had Butternut decks and gunwalls, which I cannot get, so I am using Ash for the gunwalls and cold moulding the decks using mahogany veneers. I am really asking if anyone can give me some idea of when she might have been built. I know she was purchased from the famous Harrods store, London, England (I live in Reading, England) in 1927. The builders' marks under the deck, thwarts and on the centre thwart mounting blocks are 2-17 and 141/2. I'm guessing 1925 allowing for shipping, transportation and some storage.
Any further information available would be great. Thanks
