I just finished my 1954 Old Town Guide AA. The only repairs were to replace about 2" of the bow inwales. The seats were originally pressed cane and then plywood. I was able to reuse all the original parts and the webbing (which is my preferred seat) covered the groove which I filled. First canoe I haven't stripped. I liked the patina of the old varnish so just washed with TSP and a scrub with a Scotchbrite pad and then several coats of Epifanes ending up with matte. Knocked the shine off the final coat of green with flattening agent. Love the way it turned out. Probably wait till spring to take it out but we have a few decent days coming up so maybe. Still have a couple others nearing completion to keep me busy.
