Hello
I just picked up an Old Town That I believe is set up to accept a mast and sail... Its in pretty good shape and upon a wonderful paddle today with my wife along Burt Lake we were sold on the whole wood and canvas thing!

We were looking for the model and age and found you...

My serial number is 137841 18

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jim

The Old Town canoe with serial number 137841 is an 18 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between June and August, 1943. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on September 8th, 1943 to Boyne City, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The sail rig is not mentioned on the build record so that was probably added after it left the factory. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Thanks So much for the start...I am not sure the route I am going to take ... Whether a complete restoration or some better repairs, I know it's not going to just sit and collect dust.
