I have a green 17ft Old Town canoe with every accessory available to my knowledge. It's serial number is I66850. I am curious as to it's value and birth date validation.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 166850 is 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with a keel. It was built between December, 1957 and April, 1958. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 30th, 1958 to Mystic, Connecticut. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The information at https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/57/ should help you value it. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,

That was a receipt to my deceased uncle from whom I inherited the canoe. Thank you for your response. Needs re-canvasing but has sailing gear, dagger boards, and a rudder. Any advice on how to market to an enthusiast for a fair price? I do not have a personal interest in keeping the canoe, but would like to sell it to someone who will appreciate what it is.
