Shop Drawings

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Serial number on this canoe (18' square stern OTC) is only visible on the stem with 4 numbers 1788. These numbers would put the manufacturing year in 1963 - 64. I would like to purchase shop drawings as I need to get the dimensions on the supports from middle seat to inrails and support under middle seat. I have tried to work off photos with little accuracy.

Again thanks any help on this problem!

Sadly, there are no known shop drawings or detailed dimensions like this available. Your best option will be to find someone with a similar square stern that you can copy (or have them send you detailed dimensions and pictures). Sorry,

Benson

Are you needing the dimensions of the “knee” that connects to the seat and inwale? And the support that goes from the bottom of the seat to the keelson?

Yes, that is correct all three were missing from this canoe when I removed it from an old barn in Ohio!

I won’t have any dimensions for you for a while. I have an 18’er down the list and buried in storage.
I can tell you that the knees were likely made with spruce knees, and the seat support was likely a maple or birch square post about 1 1/4” square.
Photos won’t help?

Yes I have been trying to work with pic's just tough to find close-ups! I am in Northern Minnesota and my shop is not heated so will be slowing down on the canoe. S0. any info you may come across would be appreciated!
Thanks Again for time!

Maybe these photos will help. Some are of a 15’ OT Sq. Stern and others are from a 16’ OT Row Boat….often outfitted the same as square sterns. Maybe they offer more detail than what you’ve seen prior.
